Cryptic #1

Here is a new puzzle for you, and it's a cryptic!! I've secretly wanted to make a cryptic this whole time!!

I've been interested in cryptic crosswords for a very long time, but have never tried to make one myself because I didn't know how. But meeting people through crosswords over the last year (?) has finally given me the courage I need to try one. But making a cryptic, just like solving a cryptic, is extremely difficult!! So for guidance I turned to the one and only Steve Mossberg aka Square Pursuit aka Square Chase aka The Cryptic Mensch™. Steve was extremely kind and generous in helping me figure out what I'm doing, and very patient as we worked over these clues. I am very grateful to Steve for all of his help!

If you have feedback on this puzzle, I would love to hear it because I would like to keep making cryptics and want to get better at it. Also, while this crossword does not have a theme, there are a few answers meant to be an homage to two of the greats. Hope you enjoy!

Hello again! As punishment for obliquely referring to my puzzles as "art" in the last post, I've decided that every stupid idea I have is going to become a crossword. That'll teach me!! Here is one example of, apparently, where my brain is at. It's in .jpz format, you should be able to download it from the solver below. I'm not bothering to test solve it. Hello! This is a puzzle I started like a month ago, but didn't finish cluing until this week. There's some heavy stuff in the next paragraph, skip it if you just want a (hopefully) fun crossword. As it happens I am severely depressed, and I cannot stop the flow of negative thoughts. I was hoping to finish this puzzle before the election, and say something about how I never worked hard enough, but, fittingly enough, that didn't happen. I'm having something of a crisis. I believe the future is foreclosed to us, that any dream of anything I consider to be good is dead, and that the world is genuinely a hopeless place. Life will now be like those viral videos where a jigsaw puzzle is destroyed as soon as it is finished - needlessly cruel, forever. I believe all of this, and yet - I'm going to fucking make crosswords??? Really??? This is the problem. Here's The Story

Hello! I will be the first to say that I think this puzzle is a bit insane. I'm not quite sure why it exists. A lot of times I will hear a song and then feel like I need to make a puzzle out of it; I would say (without checking) that's probably a majority of the puzzles I've done. This one also has a meta element to it, but I'm not bothering to have it test solved so I don't actually know if it's possible to figure out. Oh well! I probably could have taken my time to perfect the theme and/or done a better job, but for some reason I felt compelled to get this out as quickly as possible.
